Ratna Vajra Sakya Rinpoche

Visit to Europe of

His Holiness Ratna Vajra Rinpoche

The 42nd Sakya Trinzin

We are honoured and delighted to announce the visit of Ratna Vajra Rinpoche in Europe. Rinpoche is the eldest son of His Holiness Sakya Trizin and a descendant of the Khon family of Tibet who founded the order of the Sakya in the 11th and 12th centuries. Since his early childhood, he has followed the traditional intensive training of the holders of this lineage. After his formation, he in turn transmits the teachings of the different aspects of Buddhist philosophy and practice. He teaches with brilliance and clarity, with an excellent command of English.

In 2017, Ratna Vajra Rinpoche will inherit his father's position as the holder of the throne of the Sakya lineage, thus becoming the 42nd Sakya Trizin.

* - Teachings on Chogyal Phagpa’s “The Ornament of Jewels: Advice to Prince Jibig Temur”

Drogön Chogyal Phagpa (1235-1280) was the seventh Sakya Trizin and is counted as one of the Five Sakya Patriarchs. Following his uncle, Sakya Pandita, he enjoyed the patronage of the powerful Mongol empire, and spent much of his life at the court of Kublai Khan, gradually becoming the Khan’s chief spiritual teacher after defeating the Taoists in debate. As Kublai Khan’s power and dominion increased to cover most of China and large tracts of Eurasia, Chogyal Phagpa was appointed the first vice-ruler of Tibet.

This teaching consists of the written advice he gave to Prince Jibig Temur, probably Kublai’s grandson and successor. As well as giving the Prince (who was not necessarily committed to Buddhism alone) cogent reasons not to abuse his wealth and power, it is full of practical points that remain very relevant to a modern audience and succinctly covers the whole Buddhist path.

 Teaching on
"The Precious Wish-Fulfilling Treasure"
Khenchen Pema Sherab

The Precious Wish-Fulfilling Treasure (yid bzhin rin po che'i mdzod) is one of the Seven Treasures of Longchenpa, the Omniscient King of Dharma (1308-1364). These Treasures, which are among Longchenpa’s greatest works, explain with unequaled brilliance the entire Dharma according to the perspective of the Great Perfection. The Wish-fulfilling Treasure, usually considered to be the first of the seven, is accompanied by an auto-commentary entitled the White Lotus. It discusses the structure of the world, the nature of beings, ultimate reality, the methods for liberating oneself from samsara, the gradual stages of the path and the fruit of meditation. Khenchen Pema Sherab began six years ago to give very detailed teachings on this text, and will continue in the coming years. Beginning at 09h30, Monday 10 July, the teachings will be given every morning with the exception of Sunday 16 July and Sunday 23 July.   The teachings will be given in Tibetan, translated into French. An English translation will be provided if necessary. The teachings will be given at La Sonnerie, 24290 Saint Léon sur Vézère Contribution (without meals and accommodation) : entire teaching : 300 € ; partial : 20 € / day
